Cebu's very own "Mr. Music" Mahnee Cabase had a stroke Wednesday Sept. 24, 2003 and died on Dec. 22, 2003. His loving wife Sheila followed him 22 days later. Theirs was a true love affair that would have lasted sixty years only less than a month away on Valentine's day in 2004. They both lived and breathed music and often Sheila wrote the beautiful lyrics to Mahnee's haunting melodies.
For more than six decades, Mahnee Cabase, aka Manny or Mane' entertained many of us onstage and onscreen with his beautiful music. He also left a legacy of many music students who enjoyed his never-ending fount of knowledge.
For over six decades, Sheila Cabase was "Mommy" to everyone who knew her. She was not only talented, she was a happy person who made people around her happier.
On the day of their joined wake at Duggan's Cemetery in the Bay Area, an endless stream of people paid homage from ten in the morning until ten in the evening. Hundreds of people prayed and sang and shared their memoirs with one another. Mahnee and Sheila's music and laughter were sorely missed by everyone who came to pay their last respects.
